If you work, have children or interact with groups of people then it's likely at some time in your day you will be attempting leadership. There are loads of different definitions on leadership but I think they all boil down to creating an environment of passion and purpose for the family, group or team your trying to lead.
Interestingly I find that people tend to comment more about children or young adults when they refer to examples of passion. With comments like "the new graduates are always really passionate to get stuck in"
Well
Just think when you were a child how many books did you read? How many lessons did you have? and how many learning based activities were you involved in?
For us adults and leaders we often fall into the trap of simply not having enough time to think and work on our personal growth
But as Henry ford says "Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at 20 or 80. Anyone who keeps learning stays young"
How many books should you read? As many as you can fit in to your schedule, because the books you miss wont help. What if guy missed the book, Think and Grow Rich. He was a nice guy but he missed the book! He was very sincere but he missed the book. He worked hard but he missed the book. There is no telling what treasures will be missing from your life, if you just miss the book
So we can unlock the amazing ability we all have within us to lead the children, friends and colleagues we interact with Leading other by creating a passion to grow ourselves in wisdom, maturity and contribution. All we have to do is focus some of our precious time and energy on growing our own wisdom through learning.
Till next week don't miss the book.
Thanks for listening David Gardner
There are loads of quotes on leadership and from a business perspective I particularly like Theodore Roosevelt's
"The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men
to do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling
with them while they do it"
